About

The independent guide to South Lake Union

SLU Weekly exists to answer one question well: what’s actually happening in South Lake Union this week? Neutral, complete, and fresh — the opposite of a real-estate brochure.

Why we exist

The neighborhood’s most visible “events” page belongs to the company that owns much of the real estate here. That’s a marketing site — useful, but selective by design, and slow to change. A neighborhood deserves a listing that isn’t selling anything.

So this site is deliberately independent. We are not affiliated with any developer, landlord, or property manager. We don’t sell tickets and we don’t take placement fees. We link out to the original source for every single listing — because we’re a guide, not a broker.

Our three promises

Neutral
Every venue and organizer is listed on the same terms. No pay-to-play, no favored tenants, no hidden ranking.
Complete
We cover the layer nobody else does — the recurring happenings (trivia, markets, free sails, leagues, bingo) alongside one-off events, across the whole neighborhood.
Fresh
Listings are aggregated automatically every day from venues and organizers themselves. Freshness is engineered, not dependent on someone remembering to update a page.

How it works

An automated pipeline pulls events straight from neighborhood sources — venue calendars, organizer feeds, and public listings — normalizes them, filters to South Lake Union, and de-duplicates. The hand-curated recurring directory and venue directory are maintained by a human, because quality matters most there. Every change is a reviewable, public diff.

A note on sources

We scrape original sources — venues and organizers — not other aggregators. If we’ve listed your event with a detail wrong, or you run something in SLU we’re missing, the fastest fix is to point us at the source page.
